Seafood in Mediterranean cooking: a series of dinners at the Museu Marítim de Barcelona’s Restaurant Norai
In this series we will develop the relationship between the Mediterranean and the different cultures that surround it. It will be hosted at the Norai restaurant, in collaboration with the Museu Marítim de Barcelona, the magazine ‘Cuina’, la Platjeta, Cap a Mar and a specialist wine store invited to every event.
We’ve planned six dinners, each of which is dedicated to the gastronomy of a country or city on the Mediterranean coast. The word ‘Mediterranean’ comes from the Latin ‘Mar Medi Terraneum’, which means ‘between two lands’. Far from creating distance between the different peoples found along its coast, the Mediterranean functions as a nexus in the relationship between them. Gastronomy hasn’t been left behind, and each culture has adapted the Mediterranean diet to its own particular tastes.
Through this series of dinners we will travel through different territories steeped in ‘Mare Nostrum’, discovering flavours that are familiar and strange at the same time. We will enjoy the fusion of locally and seasonally sourced produce, too often forgotten, through the recipes of our neighbours.
The calendar for the series is as follows:
- We start with Venice, coinciding with the festival season, as celebrated in the city, on the 28th of February.
- We move on to Greece, the cradle of Mediterranean culture, on the 28th of March.
- We will then head to south of our sea, focusing on Tunisian and Morroco on the 25th of April.
- We then arrive in Andalusia, where fried fish has pride of place, on the 30th of May.
- We then stay at home, with the cooking-style of Cambrils, on the day of the San Pedro festival, the 27th of June.
- We will finish in Marseille, France for the festivity of San Jaime in the 25th of July.
- Each dinner will include the guidance of a chef/specialist in the particular local cuisine.
The ‘Centre of the Mediterranean’ dinner will take place once a month. For information on coming dates and to reserve a table email reserves@norai.org
